Hospice of New Jersey welcomes those interested to attend its bereavement support groups. The purpose of these groups is to assist grieving persons to understand what the grief process entails. Hospice of New Jersey’s groups are held in its Bloomfield office, 400 Broadacres Dr., as well as at Preakness Reformed Church in Wayne, 131 Church Lane. Turning Point helps those who are an addict or know someone that is suffering from addiction. Turning Point Support Group is offered at Calvary Temple. Meetings are every Wednesday at 7 p.m. in rooms 232 and 216. Turning Point is a confidential support group addressing life-controlling issues. Al-Anon family groups are a fellowship of relatives and friends of alcoholics who share their experience strength and hope in order to solve and cope with their common problems. Al-Anon is an anonymous program based on the 12 steps of Alcoholics Anonymous. All are welcome. Passaic Valley Hospice, a non-profit organization is in need of volunteers for various duties. Volunteers are an integral part of the professional hospice team that provides physical, emotional and spiritual support to the terminally ill. They work directly with patients and families providing respite for caregivers, companionship for patients and families and run errands. For more information, call 973-785-7329.

Panic Relief Inc. (PRI) holds bi-weekly panic and anxiety group meetings. Participants learn techniques to overcome their limitations. Meetings are held in the Wayne area on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month at 7 p.m. Call 732-940-9658.

The West Paterson Health Department holds a free blood pressure screening the first Monday of the month from 9:30 to 11 a.m. for residents in the municipal building.

A monthly bereavement support group is available to help adults cope with the loss of family members and friends. This free community service meets from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on the fourth Thursday of every month. Call 973-754-3015.

Mental Health Association of Passaic County, offers Crossover, which provides a variety of services to adolescents with a mental illness transitioning into adulthood (ages 17 to 21). All services are free. Call Gladys Yachouh at 973-478-4444, ext. 19.

Wayne Counseling Center offers low-cost or free treatment for eligible substance abuse clients. The center, located at the former Preakness School, offers individual, family and group abuse and addiction counseling. Call 973-694-1234.

Overeaters Anonymous meetings are a fellowship and support group of men and women who commit to abstaining from compulsive overeating. Call 973-335-1717 for the location of nearly 40 day and evening meetings. No dues, fees or weigh-ins.

StrollFit program is designed for mothers with infants and young toddlers who need a way to get back in shape while focusing on the demands of new motherhood. The program is developed with the needs of both mom and baby in mind. Each 60-minute class consists of cardiovascular, strength and flexibility training for a total body workout. Classes are offered every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8:45 a.m. in the Center Court of the Willowbrook Mall. Panic Relief Inc. provides panic and anxiety programs. These programs are geared to help people suffering from panic, anxiety and agoraphobia to cope with these disorders. The Physician’s Community Outreach Program is a registered non-profit organization that arranges for doctors to speak to groups and organizations in the interests of improved understanding of various health conditions. Willowbrook Mall offers the New Vitality Willowbrook Walkers club. All meetings are held from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. in Bloomingdale’s court inside the mall. The Blood Center of New Jersey is asking people to donate blood. All blood types are needed, especially Types 0 and 0+. Any healthy individual, age 17 through 75, weighing at least 110 pounds can donate blood. Donors should eat a moderate meal before donating and must bring identification showing signature.
