Pascrell hosts health fair

(by Tom Boud - March 25, 2008)

While getting checks from the government is common, receiving checkups courtesy of Uncle Sam is rather rare.
On April 7 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Rep. Bill Pascrell (D-8th) will host the 2008 Congressional Health Fair at Clara Maass Medical Center, 1 Clara Maass Drive, Belleville. Pascrell will be hosting the event along with Bob Franks, Health Care Institute of New Jersey president. Free screenings will be offered to the public, according to the eight congressional district.

At the fair, the tests include blood pressure, cholesterol, breast health, glaucoma, and obesity. Among other topics will be nutritional health, anxiety, depression, and pre-natal education. There will be complimentary parking and refreshments as well.

In an e-mail, Pascrell said he hopes many people take advantage of the upcoming seminar. He said doing so is a highly beneficial move.

“Through this open health fair, I invite my constituents to access free services, that may help identify and mitigate the occurrence of serious health episodes.”

The congressman said the technology is available to detect and treat diseases. In his release, Pascrell said New Jersey features “one of the world’s most advanced and innovative” health care establishments.

“The possibilities for the health sciences in research, diagnostics, treatments, and cures for illness are boundless here in our state. But we must make certain that all citizens have access to timely, quality care in order to be and stay healthy.”

For further health fair details, contact Caley Gray, Pascrell’s press aide, at 973-523-5152.
