Soccer program continues to expand
(by Tina Pappas - September 02, 2008)
With the onset of the West Paterson Boys & Girls Club (WPB&GC) soccer season underway, many changes to its program is resulting in a growth explosion.
"I expect to have more than 100 kids signed up this year," said Ceaser Nakhleh, in-town league soccer commissioner. "That’s a 15 percent increase from last year. Sam Yodice, who is our club’s president, along with the club’s board members have been very supportive of the program."
According to Nakhleh, some of the additions to the program this year entail having a professional soccer coach doing soccer clinics for the kids as well as clinics for the volunteer coaches.
"Our in-town program is much more organized than it has been in the past and it continues to grow," he said. "It is still mainly a recreational program, which is getting a little more of a competitive edge. We are always looking to further expand and improve the program and we feel we do so each year."
The league is open to children entering kindergarten through fifth grade. Local sponsors who are returning once again to help support the program are Pizza City, A & S Pork Store and Leopizzi Realty.
The season begins the week of Sept. 8. Registration will take place on Sept. 5 and 6 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the WPB&GC. If anyone is interested in helping out with the program, contact Ceaser Nakhleh at 973-460-3695 or ceaser@optonline.net.
