Next Clove Rd. open house in the works
(by Tom Boud - September 30, 2008)
LITTLE FALLS - Another open house on the proposed Clove/Long Hill Road intersection upgrade is just down the road.
According to Council President Paul Huggins, Steve Edmond - Passaic County engineer - will appear at town hall for a second hearing on the envisioned intersection’s overhaul. The day and time is to be determined by week’s end.
"We haven’t set a date yet, but I spoke to the engineer, and he agreed to come back in. We have a workshop meeting on Oct. 20. We may shoot for that date," Huggins said on Sunday.
In addition, he said the original Oct. 16 public comment deadline on the issue has been extended to Nov. 16.
The upcoming forum follows up a mid-September one at the township civic center. Some residents living near the junction told the governing body they were unable to make the first meeting, which was held in the afternoon. That feedback session was part of the county’s process to determine which intersection rebuild plan to go with.
Huggins noted the topic has concerned many Clove/Long Hill Road residents. He said the council has received a petition opposing the scoping study for the project. As such, the council president said it is important residents get all the relevant information.
"I think there’s a lot of people who are looking at the worse case scenario," he said about the highest impact alternative, "I think they need to look at the preferred project," he said, about the engineer recommended option, "than the most drastic one."
Huggins said Edmond was "very cooperative" with the local government’s request to do another presentation.
"He wanted to continue with projects that are a win-win situation for everyone."
