Fundraiser will help keep Neuter Commuter on the road

Since 2005, the Passaic County Mobile Spay/Neuter Coalition’s Neuter Commuter, has helped families and responsible feral colony caretakers to spay or neuter over 1,500 cats and dogs at very low costs. Assuming only three or four generations of offspring from those 1,500, tens of thousands of cats and dogs were saved from being born only to live their lives in shelters or on the streets facing horrific conditions and untimely deaths. It costs the coalition about $1,200 a day to do this and at this time, it is seeking public assistance to keep the Neuter Commuter on the road.

The coalition is planning a fundraising bingo night Saturday, Feb. 23, from 6 to 9 p.m. (first game 6:30 p.m.) at the Caldwell College Student Center, 9 Ryerson Ave. (off Bloomfield Ave.), Caldwell. Admission is $5 and includes three cards. Additional cards are $2 and $3 each. To reserve a seat call 973-454-1625 or e-mail info@neutercommuter.com.

The Passaic County Mobile Spay/Neuter Coalition has received a favorable IRS determination and is a federally recognized 501(c)(3) non-profit public charitable organization.

The coalition is currently made up of four federally recognized, 501(c)(3) nonprofit charitable organizations in Passaic County: Friends of the Clifton Animal Shelter, Helping Hands of Passaic, Only Kindness and Save the Animals Rescue Team (START).

Together, these groups have joined forces to help alleviate the pet overpopulation problem in Passaic County, and all of New Jersey. This coalition of progressive animal shelters and rescue groups formed for the sole purpose of purchasing and operating a mobile spay/neuter clinic in Passaic County, and surrounding areas of New Jersey.

Throughout 37 towns and nine counties in New Jersey, over 1,500 cats and dogs later, the coalition currently have a waiting list of up to three months for cats and up to six months for dogs. In that waiting time, those domestic and colony animals each have the potential of multiplying at least once, producing litters of two to six offspring. Although diligently continuing efforts in obtaining federal grants, the coalition needs more than that make an impact on the overwhelming overpopulation and to keep the Neuter Commuter on the road.

The third annual “Strike Out Pet Overpopulation” bowling party is coming up on Saturday, May 24. For more information, call 973-454-1625 or e-mail info@neutercommuter.com.
